By law, dentists in Florida are required to take 50 credits of continuing education each year. Dr. Grimes exceeds that expectation by at least three times by taking 150 - 200 hours of continuing education credits each year. Dr. Grimes also subscribes to the latest industry journals to keep tabs on research and development in the dental industry. As a team and as individuals, our office makes it our responsibility to be familiar with the latest techniques and materials available.

Although the American Dental Association recommends a healthy adult get a checkup every 6 months, there really are no automatic “formulas” because no two patients are alike. We take the time to get to know each of our patients, including past dental history, present condition, and future needs and goals. We then customize a treatment plan to help them meet their needs and achieve their goals. When our patients treatment plan indicates they are due for a checkup, we send them a cute postcard reminder to call for their appointment.

With good parent-guided home care, Dr. Grimes recommends seeing children by the age of six, which normally coincides with the eruption of their first permanent molar. At this young age, it's quite simple to recognize and take steps to prevent potential future problems. The first time we meet them is often during one of the parent's appointments. We'll just introduce ourselves and make them comfortable with our team. On their first real visit, we treat them gently and with special care, ensuring the experience is positive and non-threatening. Of course, if your child chips or knocks out a tooth prior to this age, you should let us know right away.

Dr. Grimes achieves great whitening results with a joint Doctor/Patient effort. The course to follow in doing so requires individualization. Some factors that must be addressed include the presence of tooth decay, tooth alignment and periodontal condition. Dr. Grimes prefers the use of personalized custom trays using 22% carbamide peroxide gel for optimum results; the use of which is preceded by a thorough cleaning and polish. Having personalized trays affords the patient the added benefit of periodic at home touch-up bleaching as needed to maintain the best possible whitening result.

The most common cause of tooth loss is gum disease. Of graver importance are the links between gum disease and various serious conditions including heart disease, stroke, respiratory ailments, osteoporosis, diabetes, low birth weight and premature babies.
It's important to realize that healthy gums do not bleed with brushing and flossing. Bleeding is typically a sign of gum disease (also known as periodontal disease). Gum disease is a progressive condition that can be prevented if diagnosed and treated early, however, more advanced stages can often cause irreversible damage. Be sure to have your teeth and gums checked regularly to prevent problems from gum disease.

The first step toward correcting bad breath is to make an appointment to check for dental disease.

You may not realize it, but even when your mouth is clean, it's full of bacteria. These naturally occurring microorganisms like to eat even the smallest bits of leftover food particles; after doing this they deposit a sticky residue on the teeth called 'plaque'. This substance accumulates throughout the day, especially in places where toothbrushes can't reach. Left to harden into tartar, plaque build-up irritates your gums and can trigger inflammation and gum disease. Sound like a nasty situation? It doesn't have to be. In fact, you can eliminate much of this plaque by carefully brushing and properly flossing every day.
It's really that simple: your toothbrush cleans the tops and sides of your teeth, while the floss cleans between them, polishing your tooth surfaces and controlling bad breath. So, in just an extra two or three minutes, you've taken a giant step in the war against those bad bacteria. If shallow periodontal pockets are present, Dr. Grimes often recommends the additional careful use of an oral irrigating device.

The key to success in aesthetic dentistry is a clear understanding of your desired outcome. When you decide to correct or enhance your smile, Dr. Grimes will complete your oral exam, discuss your smile goals, and create a treatment plan customized to meet your specific needs and goals. One way to achieve an objective smile analysis is to stand in front of a mirror and smile as wide as you can. Around 8 to 12 teeth normally show on your upper arch when doing this. Count the number of teeth that show for you in particular and it will give you an idea of how many restorations may be recommended to give you back a beautiful and natural-looking smile. Take Our Smile Quiz.

Using all we know about what is perceived to be a beautiful smile, we can advise and assist you with the creation of desired goals and assessment of treatment options. In designing your new smile, we will first examine the length, width, and proportion of your teeth, how the lips fall, and the symmetry and size of your gums. We will then take these measurements and, using the information gathered during your Smile Analysis, create a customized treatment plan outlining the nature of your treatment, the duration and the financial investment.

Does your office provide Botox and Restylane injections for Facial Rejuvenation?
Facial Rejuvenation using Botox injections reduces the appearance of wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes (crow's feet). Restylane is an injectable dermal filler used to reduce folds around lips and the nasal area. It is also used for lip enhancement. Both procedures require periodic repeat treatments. Our office is currently considering adding these services if sufficient patient desire dictates. Dr. Grimes is always open to new avenues to enhance patient treatment, but only after careful study and evaluation.
